Endodontics / Root Canals
Many patients who come to Guatemala for dental work are motivated to seek help because they are experiencing pain. Treatment with endodontics may both end the pain and save the tooth. If you have been delaying treatment because of the cost, please stop waiting. You will be able to afford high-quality treatment in Guatemala.
Endodontics /root canal treatments are treatments used when an infection has spread so deep in the tooth that it has reached the nerve of the root of the tooth and threatens to spread to the other teeth or create other problems, such as an abscess. The name of the treatment comes from the procedure’s focus on the thin canals that run through the tooth’s roots.
In a root canal, the dentist opens the top of the tooth and gets rid of the interior of the tooth that has been destroyed by the infection. He or she then gets rid of the pulp that is located in the base and root or roots of the tooth until they reaches the end of the root. The dentist then replaces the pulp with dental cement and seals the tooth. Depending on the amount of tooth loss suffered, a restoration is then prepared. Since the tooth loss is typically significant, the most common type of restoration used is a dental crown.
The procedure involves local anesthesia, delivered in one or two shots in the gums. Thanks to current technology, the procedure isn’t long, typically taking an hour, and it is neither particularly uncomfortable nor painful. However, the patient is usually expected to take antibiotics and painkillers for a few days after the procedure.
Root canal therapy can save teeth that might otherwise be lost.
